The Experience
Our Philosophy
Every detail matters
Patagonia Horse Trips was built around one simple idea: every detail matters.
From the horse you ride to the places where you spend the night, every part of the experience is chosen with care and intention. The same horse stays with you throughout the journey, giving horse and rider the time to build trust naturally. Small groups allow us to know every guest personally and create an experience that feels relaxed, genuine, and unhurried.
Over the years, this has become our way of doing things, built on a deep respect for the horses that make every journey possible.
Our hope is simple: that you return home remembering not only the landscapes, but also the horse that carried you, the people you met, and the feeling that every detail had a purpose.
The Rhythm
Patagonia keeps the time
No two days are exactly the same, and that's part of what makes the journey so rewarding.
Some days cover more ground, while others are shorter and more relaxed. There are mornings that begin early to make the most of the day, and others with time for a relaxed breakfast before getting back in the saddle. The pace naturally changes throughout the journey, keeping each day different while allowing both horses and riders to enjoy every stage of the experience.
From the moment you're picked up until the day you leave, everything follows a carefully planned rhythm that feels balanced and comfortable from beginning to end.
The Horses and the Saddles
A great horse deserves a great saddle.
Every great ride depends on the connection between horse, rider and saddle. That's why we dedicate so much care to each of them before the journey begins. When everything works together, the experience feels natural, for both horse and rider.
Our Horses
Patagonian Criollo horses, born and raised for this terrain. All of our horses are our own and live together year-round on the same estancia. They rotate throughout the season, ensuring plenty of rest between departures. Every horse follows a regular veterinary and farrier care programme. They carry riders only. Luggage is transported separately by support vehicle. When a horse retires, it remains part of Patagonia Horse Trips or moves on to a carefully selected home.
Our Saddles
Traditional cangalla saddles, chosen for long days on the trail. Selected for the comfort and wellbeing of both horse and rider. Individually fitted before every departure and adjusted throughout the journey whenever needed. Lightweight, practical and designed to perform in Patagonia's varied terrain.
A comfortable horse, a properly fitted saddle and a confident rider create the foundation for every journey. When each part works together, the days become more enjoyable, the connection grows naturally, and you can simply focus on the experience ahead.
The People
The people behind every journey.
It takes a small team, and every one of them genuinely enjoys what they do.
From your guides and local baqueanos to the cooks, hosts and families who welcome us into their estancias, every person plays a part in the experience. Some spend the entire journey with the group, while others join us for just one evening, one meal or one memorable stop along the trail.
Many have known each other for years, working together season after season. That sense of familiarity creates something guests often notice without anyone having to explain it: a warm welcome, genuine hospitality, and the feeling that you're among people who love sharing their corner of Patagonia.
Life Off the Horse
Where the day continues.
The experience doesn't end when the saddles come off.
Evenings are a chance to relax, enjoy a good meal, share stories from the day, and get to know the people you've been riding with. Some nights are spent around a fire, others around a long dinner table, but they all have one thing in common: there's no rush.
These are often the moments people remember just as much as the riding itself. The conversations, the laughter, the local food, and the simple feeling of ending the day in good company.
The Details
The work behind it all.
Every successful journey depends on hundreds of small details working together.
Before every departure, horses are prepared, equipment is checked, routes are reviewed, accommodation is confirmed, vehicles are coordinated, and every guide knows the plan for the days ahead.
It's the work that happens quietly in the background.
Practical Information
Before You Arrive
Clear answers to the essentials shared across all our journeys.
Patagonian weather can change quickly, with sun, wind and rain often appearing within the same day.
Our departures are planned around the season, the route and the conditions expected along the way, so each journey is prepared for whatever the weather brings.
Much of the riding takes place beyond regular mobile coverage.
Every group carries satellite communication that operates independently of the mobile network, allowing our guides to remain in contact with the support team throughout the journey. Routes, contact points and emergency procedures are reviewed before every departure.
Satellite Communication
Every journey carries satellite communication, entirely independent of mobile coverage. Wherever the ride takes us, we can reach the outside world and it can reach us.
Guests may send word home at any time. In practice, most choose not to.
Each journey combines a selection of comfortable and characterful places, chosen for their location, hospitality and the role they play within the route.
Accommodation styles vary between itineraries, from remote glamping and traditional estancias to hotels and lodges. Full details are provided on each individual ride page.
Meals are included throughout the journey and prepared by our own team or by the hosts who welcome us along the route.
Menus reflect the places we visit and may include traditional Patagonian dishes, shared dinners and meals prepared over an open fire. Dietary requirements, allergies and intolerances should be communicated before arrival so they can be planned for in advance.
There are many opportunities to photograph the landscape, wildlife, horses and daily life along the route.
You are welcome to bring a phone, compact camera or professional equipment. Conditions can change quickly, so cameras should be suitably protected from wind and rain.
Once your booking is confirmed, you will receive a detailed packing list specific to your journey.
The list focuses on comfortable riding clothing, practical layers and protection from Patagonia's changing conditions, while keeping luggage manageable throughout the trip.
Our journeys are designed around small groups, local knowledge and careful use of the places through which we travel.
We work with local guides, families, estancias and accommodation partners, while respecting the horses, wildlife, land and communities that form part of each route.
Riding requirements vary according to the duration, terrain and daily distances of each journey. The recommended level is clearly stated on every ride page.
Before confirming a booking, we speak with each rider about their recent experience, confidence and expectations. This allows us to recommend the appropriate journey and prepare accordingly.
Emergency Communication
Before any departure we agree evacuation routes, contact points and response protocols with people who know this terrain intimately.
Our guides carry emergency equipment on every stage, and our team in town knows precisely where we are each night.
Health & Safety
Medical conditions, allergies and regular medication should be shared confidentially when booking so our team can prepare appropriately.
Guides carry first-aid equipment throughout the journey and are trained to respond in remote environments. The support team also maintains an updated record of the group's planned route and overnight locations.
Insurance
Comprehensive travel insurance, including emergency medical evacuation from a remote location, is required for every guest.
The policy must remain valid for the full duration of the journey. Coverage requirements will be provided before travel.
Every journey shares this same care. What changes is the country you ride through, and how long you stay.
