Meet Osvaldo – Founder and Lead Guide of Patagonia Horse Trips
Osvaldo Mella is one of Patagonia’s most experienced horseback expedition leaders, with more than twenty years guiding multi-day routes across Torres del Paine, Sierra Baguales and the remote valleys around Puerto Natales. Born and raised in the region, he grew up surrounded by the traditions of the Patagonian gauchos, developing a deep understanding of the land, its horses and its culture.
His guiding career began in 2002, exploring remote estancias, hidden valleys and the historic trails used by local baqueanos. Over the years, he has developed extensive knowledge of the terrain, climate and history of southern Chile — expertise that shapes every expedition he leads.
After living in the United States, Canada, Australia and Europe, Osvaldo returned to Patagonia with a broader perspective and a strong connection to international travelers. This global experience, combined with his Patagonian heritage, defines his approach: authentic, detail-oriented and aligned with the highest standards of premium adventure travel.
Today, Osvaldo personally guides every Patagonia Horse Trips expedition, offering hands-on leadership and unparalleled regional insight to guests from around the world.
